Creation Matters
I’m not entirely sure what I expected when I asked the creation/ evolution question. In some cases I got more than I expected, in some less, in some I was downright dismayed. Truth be told, I don’t want to write this today, but God is pushing and pushing, and I can’t run anymore.
First of all, you might need to know where I am coming from before we get going. The basic foundations of my faith can be found in the left sidebar “The Big Question—Pt 1” If you need to, you can start there. Secondly, what I have to say today will probably only have any kind of pertinence to other believers. I’m not going to waste time arguing the existence or non-existence of God. His existence IS, and He is sovereign. Your belief system (or lack thereof) doesn’t change that fact. Thirdly, let’s not get all bogged down in the macro-evolution/ micro-evolution argument. Micro-evolution (aka adaptation) exists and can be reproduced in laboratories. Macro-evolution is a myth and has never, even in its most rudimentary form, ever been reproduced.
I think the most disturbing trend in Christianity today is the statement “it doesn’t matter” in regards to evolution. I want to assure you, it most certainly does matter. In fact, it may matter as much as anything can matter after the cross. Taken to its logical conclusion, evolution negates the need for a Savior and the very tenants of our faith.
First let’s dispose of the “day is as a thousand years and a thousand years is as a day” garbage. One of the great tools of the enemy is to tell us that the Bible is “mystical and difficult to understand” (insert new age music here). It’s not. At all. In fact, the Bible may be one of the most simple and straightforward texts ever published in the history of time, as it ought to be since it was created by the most perfect Author. I challenge you to sit down and read the Bible. Front to back, cover to cover. When you get finished, tell me which parts are literal and which parts are either visions, dreams or allegory. This is not a trick question, and it’s easily accomplished because in every single circumstance where God is not to be taken at his literal word it is noted in the text. Parables- noted. Dreams-noted. Visions-noted. And in every circumstance an explanation is given (excepting Revelations and related future visions/ prophecies as these are not yet come to pass.). The creation account in Genesis is indeed meant to be taken absolutely literally because nowhere in the text is it noted otherwise. The Word was not given to us to confuse and confound! It was given to reveal, to enlighten and to give answer and purpose to our existence. Evolution does none of these things.
But let’s, for a moment, pretend that “The first day” really meant umpteen-ridiculous million years. At what point then, does the story cease to be allegorical and become literal? Is it the fourth day? The fifth? With the creation of Adam and Eve? Cain and Abel? Noah? Where do we draw the line and whiplash our brains from the land of fairy tale to the land of reality, because here’s the rub, without the Garden, everything else in God’s word is a lie. Every word. Without the garden, there is no fall; without a fall, there is no need for a redeemer and in one fell swoop you just made Jesus Christ the biggest fool in history (By the way, if you don’t believe in Jesus Christ and the necessity of Salvation, then the creation/ evolution argument is not your biggest problem)
Don’t you see, and here is the most miraculous, mind-boggling thing of all, God didn’t need us! He, by His own definition, is completely self-sufficient. But He made us anyway. We are hand-crafted miracles, every one of us. Whether you decide to love God or not, you still are His beloved miracle, knit together by His divine hand in the womb, and in His unfathomable mind before the beginning of time. How amazing is that?!?!?!?! And when you allow evolution to make you some sort of cast-off monkey spawn you rob yourself of the very thing that sets you apart, that makes you someone worth dying for!!! Don’t you want that? Don’t you want to be that loved, that desired, that sought after? Because you are. We are not accidents! We are designed, set apart, exclusively made in the image of a Divine Creator! And evolution, in any form robs us of that. And robbery, deception, confusion and lies are not of God. But they are of the one who seeks to destroy us.
Creation matters. Don’t compromise your faith. Don’t bow to the popular, comfortable, easy, crowd-pleasing, broad minded world view, because narrow is the gate and few are those who pass through it. God can be taken at His word. All the time.
Can I hear “Glory!”?

I'M a nature bookwriter and i believe that the creation was entirely done by GOD ALMIGHTY.

Loved this article! You've captured it beautifully!

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.
I don't see God as a being who's majesty can be captured by a book, even one as brilliant as the Bible. So much of my God is revealed in the everyday things, things I don't specifically read about in the Bible. And you know what, GLORY TO GOD FOR THAT! He's too big and brilliant for us to be as smart enough to completely understand how his mind works.
At the end of the day, no creation/evolution doesn't matter, especially if you put energy into such an trivial arguement instead of using it to help others. Frankly, arguing about this doesn't feed, clothe or save anyone. I wonder how much change the world would be impacted by if this arguement went away and that time/energy/resource was used for something else? To me, it just makes folks who agree with your feelings on the matter feel even more superior (and shamelessly prideful about it) and spew things like "glory" where none for our God is to be had. Its a half-baked victory for fundamentalism, not God. He's not that small.

GLORY!!!!
Did you hear about the atheist scientist who told God he could create life from dirt just like God did in Genesis? God told him to go ahead and the atheist asked, "Where's some dirt?"
God replied, "Uh-uh, you get your own dirt."

Amen. Thank you for such powerful, stirring words. You presented quite the message there and I thank you for it.

Hey, hon, speaking of evolution / science / creation etc...did you hear about the bruhaha over at the Smithsonian? I thought I put this as the "highlight" article of one of the Saturday Potpourri's (truthfully, I'm too lazy to look back and check it out). Follow the link - some scientist got in huge trouble for putting creation out there (in public of all things) as worthy as evolution as a solution.

I do not believe it was the age is a thousand years thingy necessarily only that day is used sporadically throughout the Bible as a period of time not necessarily specified and since the sun and moon were not created until "day 4" there was no real way to tell one day from another before that time. All this is not really important but I just thought I would clarify that I am not into the new agey mystical mumbo jumbo stuff you mentioned. Real seminarian professors support our age-day theory thoughts too. Am I rambling now??? Yeah??? I am going to nurse the baby now...
Love you sweetie!

I totally and thoroughly enjoyed this! Thank you for sharing it. btw, I am truly a creationist and that is all we teach our children. Creation Science is all there is as far as our family is concerned (and God's Word is concerned). Only one little difference I would have would be the actual literal 6 day thing (I kind of lean toward age-day theory - but like it says it is a theory and we shall have a great deal to talk about with God to understand everything in eternity - I am excited about that prospect of asking God all those great questions)
I hope that your hand is doing well and I think about you each day and pray for you. You are sharing some wonderful things and I am enjoying it all.

God has used your writing skills today to HIS glory!
"The Word was not given to us to confuse and confound!
It was given to reveal, to enlighten and to give answer and purpose to our existence."
What comfort there is in that statement. Thank you for a great blog entry. (((hugs)))
